This past week, the Wednesday Market held their annual “Strawberry Fest.” Most of the vendors decided to participate with strawberry-themed recipes and market stall. I was on hand to check out the sites…and tastes!
I may as well get this out of the way first. McLean’s has berries. Lots and lots of berries. You should note, however, that the “pick your own” at the McLean’s Berry Farm will probably only last another week or so. So if you plan on picking, get at it.
The most creative use of strawberry had to be at Sybil’s, where they served up Strawberry Curry over Kawartha Dairy ice cream. Quote of the day: Asked when the recipe was created, Delano from Sybil’s replied “this morning, when we found out it was Strawberry Fest.”

Travis has been serving up lemonade at the Farmer’s Market for a couple of years now. He’s quite a bit taller than when he started. Like his mother, Tracy — of Kyoto Coffee — he’s capable of giving some good natured sass with his beverages. His strawberry lemonade hit the spot.

Alexa from ChocoSol froths up some Strawberry “Cold” Chocolate. Don’t know the story behind Chocosol? They’re probably the most ethically sourced chocolate that you will find. Pop by their market stall for details.

Paula Houde from Two Dishes catering was knocking out strawberry crepes. Mine is in progress.

Speaking of gorgeous… These dainty Strawberry Chevre Tarts from Crosswind Farms were to die for. Photo By Jillian Bishop.
A few years ago, when I had an office right by the Farmers’ Market, I’d swing by the Lane’s End booth for some tarts. I couldn’t resist a nostalgic visit. Plus, I wanted tarts. Oh, they also raise some lovely local lamb.

After sampling all of these delicious and delectable berry treats, I went home to find that Krista had harvested the best berries of all: the wild strawberries that we grow all around our property. Oh-so-tiny, they pack a strawberry punch like no other.
