Tomorrow, the Peterborough Downtown Farmers’ Market will host its second annual Iron Chef Market Challenge. Four local chefs will be given identical baskets containing lots seasonal fall produce, local meat & cheese, and other market goods. They will also be given $10 worth of Nourish Coupons to select & purchase a ‘secret ingredient’ from any market vendor.
And for the second year in a row, I’ve been asked to host! (Note: YAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!).
Starting at 10:30am, Chefs will be given 1.5 hours to create a seasonal dish on-site that will be sampled and rated by a panel of guest judges at 12pm. One local Chef will be crowned the 2nd Annual Market Iron Chef by creating an innovative dish that showcases local products, uses everything in the basket & is of course, delicious. Chefs include returning Champion Steve Hancock from St. Veronus. Lindsey Dupuis from Brio Gusto, Lorianne Cichellio of the PC Cooking School in Lindsay, and Geoff Kirkland of the Lantern Restaurant.
Remaining portions will be given out to market-goers to sample and enjoy. Join us to learn creative ways to use fresh market goods, learn what is in season, get inspired by local Chefs, & enjoy a wonderful fall day at the Downtown Farmers’ Market.
The Downtown Farmers’ Market will continue to be open every Wednesday, 8:30-2:00pm until October 29th in our 2014 season.
