Most of the Farm to Table readers and tour participants will be relieved to hear about this little bit of culinary science: Turns out that bacon sandwiches actually do cure hangovers.
How this research hasn’t been nominated for a Nobel Prize in Medicine is beyond me.
Britain’s The Telegraph interviewed Elin Roberts, of Newcastle University’s Centre for Life. She reported that researchers had come up with some invigorating results.
“Bread is high in carbohydrates and bacon is full of protein,” she noted. “Which breaks down into amino acids. Your body needs these amino acids, so eating them will make you feel good.”
Ms Roberts told The Mirror: “Bingeing on alcohol depletes neurotransmitters too, but bacon contains a high level of aminos which tops these up, giving you a clearer head.”
There you go. Thinking of putting that cork back in the bottle? No need! Simply make sure you have a pound or so of the good stuff waiting for you in the fridge.
